Organic fruit and vegetables contain more nutrients and less chemical residue which is potentially bad for out health, that is clear. But it is not always possible to afford all organic produce. In this case it’s really helpful to know which produce has the highest concentration of pesticides and which has the lowest. Pesticide Network Action have produced a list of the best and worst.
Fruits and vegetables with little or no pesticide residues:
Star Fruit, plums, exotic fruits, kiwi, bananas, raspberries, other berries, melons.
Corn on the cob, leeks, aubergines, onions, ginger, chili peppers, potatoes, sweet peppers, celery, spinach.
Fruits and vegetables with the most pesticide residue:
Soft citrus, pineapples, pears, apples, grapes, strawberries, peaches, nectarines, apricots.
Tomatoes, parsnips, cucumber, carrots, lettuce, beans in pod, sweet potatoes, courgettes, yams.
